Anatolian peninsula located over the historical Silk Road has procured the commercial and political relations of nations for centuries with a comprehensive road web consisting of various inns, caravansaries and bridges. The subject of bridges was considered to be taken into Postage Stamp Emission Schedule of 2014 in this context and commemoration stamps and first day envelopes were put into circulation with Kesik Bridge and Clandiras Bridge on 10.04.2014
Kesik Bridge (Sivas): Kesik Bridge is one of the best examples of Anatolian Seljukian architecture tradition, located over Kizilirmak in the route of Ancient Sivas-Kayseri road and was built by Seljukian State in 1292. The bridge has a length of 326,36 meters and width of 4,95 meters; the bridge is completely built with cut stones. The biggest arch span is 7,90 meters long. The bridge consists of two parts; its Sivas side has 17 niches and its Kayseri side has 2 niches.
Clandiras Bridge (Usak): Clandiras Bridge is an important passage between the past and the future constructed in the area of Phrygians, located over Banaz Stream in Karahalli district of Usak province. The bridge is approximately 2500 years old. Bridge which has a structure with pulley shaped arch with one niche, has a width of 1,75 meters and length of 24 meters and depth of 17 meters. The stone surfaces of the bridge constructed over the strong stones and placed on semi-waist of the rocks of the mountain are engraved and big stones of the arches are clamped into each other.

Turkey Stamps 2014 60th Year of General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI)


General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works was founded in 1954 in scope of 6200th Law Regarding the Organization and Duties of General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works for the planning, management, development and operation of all water sources in our country; it is a public legal entity affiliated with the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs and takespride of its 60th year.
State hydraulic Works has taken water to 36 decare agricultural area, provided 34 million people with 3,36 billion m³/year water and protected 5835 residential units and 17,22 million decare agricultural area from floods with its investments of 60 years. In addition, power of 12,295 MW was obtained and 43,12 billion kwh/year electricity production was obtained annually.
World Water Day: World Water Day organized by the United Nations in order to call attention to sustainable water management is being celebrated by General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works on March,22nd. The subject of the year of 2014 is "Water and Energy".
Deriner Dam: Deriner Dam which has been built over Çoruh River in Artvin Province and has been operating since 2012 is the highest dam of Turkey with 249 meters of structure height. It is the third highest dam of Europe and sixth highest dam of the World in concrete arch dam class and it stores 2 billion m³ water. Annually 2,1 billion kw/h energy is produced in Deriner Dam which has a installed capacity of 670 MW.
In the memory of 60th anniversary of General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, valuable commemoration stamp and a first day cover were published by PTT on the date of 22.03.2014
