Anatolian peninsula located over the historical Silk Road has procured the commercial and political relations of nations for centuries with a comprehensive road web consisting of various inns, caravansaries and bridges. The subject of bridges was considered to be taken into Postage Stamp Emission Schedule of 2014 in this context and commemoration stamps and first day envelopes were put into circulation with Kesik Bridge and Clandiras Bridge on 10.04.2014
Kesik Bridge (Sivas): Kesik Bridge is one of the best examples of Anatolian Seljukian architecture tradition, located over Kizilirmak in the route of Ancient Sivas-Kayseri road and was built by Seljukian State in 1292. The bridge has a length of 326,36 meters and width of 4,95 meters; the bridge is completely built with cut stones. The biggest arch span is 7,90 meters long. The bridge consists of two parts; its Sivas side has 17 niches and its Kayseri side has 2 niches.
Clandiras Bridge (Usak): Clandiras Bridge is an important passage between the past and the future constructed in the area of Phrygians, located over Banaz Stream in Karahalli district of Usak province. The bridge is approximately 2500 years old. Bridge which has a structure with pulley shaped arch with one niche, has a width of 1,75 meters and length of 24 meters and depth of 17 meters. The stone surfaces of the bridge constructed over the strong stones and placed on semi-waist of the rocks of the mountain are engraved and big stones of the arches are clamped into each other.

Turkey Stamps 2014 60th Year of General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI)
General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works was founded in 1954 in scope of 6200th Law Regarding the Organization and Duties of General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works for the planning, management, development and operation of all water sources in our country; it is a public legal entity affiliated with the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs and takespride of its 60th year.
State hydraulic Works has taken water to 36 decare agricultural area, provided 34 million people with 3,36 billion m³/year water and protected 5835 residential units and 17,22 million decare agricultural area from floods with its investments of 60 years. In addition, power of 12,295 MW was obtained and 43,12 billion kwh/year electricity production was obtained annually.
World Water Day: World Water Day organized by the United Nations in order to call attention to sustainable water management is being celebrated by General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works on March,22nd. The subject of the year of 2014 is "Water and Energy".
Deriner Dam: Deriner Dam which has been built over Çoruh River in Artvin Province and has been operating since 2012 is the highest dam of Turkey with 249 meters of structure height. It is the third highest dam of Europe and sixth highest dam of the World in concrete arch dam class and it stores 2 billion m³ water. Annually 2,1 billion kw/h energy is produced in Deriner Dam which has a installed capacity of 670 MW.
In the memory of 60th anniversary of General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, valuable commemoration stamp and a first day cover were published by PTT on the date of 22.03.2014

Turkey 2014 Stamps 100th Anniversary of Martyrdom of the First Naval Air Pilot Mehmet Fethi Bey
Lieutenant Mehmet Fethi Bey, assigned as engineer, was born in 1887, Istanbul.Upon graduating form Naval Engineering School as Lieutenant, he assumed duties onborad Hamidiye Cruiser as well as various ships. He received training in an aircraft factory in 1912, Bristol. At that time he also studied aviation by his own financial means. He made successful filights when he joined Balkan Wars. After war, national authorities, a Turkish woman and a press member were all flown by Mehmet Fethi Bey for the first time. Upon his commendable flights at war and peace, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
He voluntarily joined the team which was planning to fly Istanbul to Alexandria to provide relief because of Balkan Wars, to improve decreasing prestige of Ottoman Empire and demonstrate appreciation for the people living in far distant places. Lieutenant Selim Sadik Bey, entrusted as an assistant observer , and the Lieutenant Fethi Bey began thier flight with a Bleriot XI class aircraft, "Muavenet-i Milliye" following the route from Istanbul to Adapazari, Eskisehir, Afyonkarahisar, Konya, Adana, Aleppo, Humus, Beirut and Damascus on 8 February 1914. On February 27th, after having passed through Golan Hills and approaching Jerusalem, his plane crashed somewhere near Taberiye Lake. They both died and became the first mrtyrs of Turkish Naval Aviation. In memory of those brave men, Monument of Martyrs was established both in Taberiye and Fatih, İstanbul in May and August 1914 respectively. The town “Megri” in Mugla was then renamed as “Fethiye” in memory of the martyr Mehmet Fethi Bey.PTT issues memory blog consisting of 4 stamps and the first day envelope on February 27,2014 in memory of the 100th anniversary of the First Naval Air Pilot Lieutenant Mehmet fethi Bey’s death.

22nd Winter Olympics is organized to be hold in Sochi, Russia between 07 and 24 February 2014.
The sports, the products of humans born from their struggle against nature, are a physical action and also a social action for wide masses social identity in which they represent themselves. The Olympics represents the value of fellowship in a best way as much as dedication, determination and effort.
The participation of approximately 3 thousand people consisting of women and men is expectedfor Winter Olympics of Sochi. The Olympic Games will be held in Alping Skiing, Biathlon, Racing Sled, Cross-Country, Curling, Figure Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Ice Hockey, Luge, Nordic Combine, Short Track, Skeleton, Ski Jumping, Snowboard, Speed Skating fields.
In the memory of Sochi Winter Olympics, four valuable commemoration stamps series and first day cover (FDC) were published by PTT.

100th Year of Altay Sports Club
Altay Sports Club was founded in order to reveal the Turkish awareness with the symbol of Altai Mountais in Izmir on the 16th January 1914. The black and white colors of the club symbolizes our belief regarding our dark days of First Balkan Wars are to turn into white days and also express being together both in a rainy day and good day. Altay Sports Club was founded by Vasıf Cinar, Mustafa Necati, Sukru Saracoglu and Nejat Evliyazade and it is the first Anatolian team to win the Turkey Cup. Altay Sports Club won the aforementioned cup twice and played in finals for seven times. Altay Sports Club which has participated in the Cup Winners Tournament and UEFA Cup is alsothe first sports club played in an away match in our country. In the memory of 100th Year of Altay Sports Club which has been continuing its activities in many fields and is currently participating in football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, swimming and handball fields; four valuable commemoration stamps and First Day Cover(FDC) and a stamp portfolio including the aforementioned products were published by PTT. |
